Blacksmithing classes by an expert
Alex Price provides blacksmithing classes to individuals who would like to try their hand at the age old craft of blacksmithing in a genuine Victorian Forge built in 1885 or perhaps you would like to buy a voucher as a birthday or Christmas present for someone who would like to experience blacksmithing.
Designated days for a blacksmithing class are available throughout 2025 / 2026 so please see below a list of the designated days, subject to availability. Alex can accommodate a maximum of five individuals, each able to work with their own fire and anvil. A session starts at 10am and finishes at approximately 4pm with half an hour lunchbreak halfway through and best bring a packed lunch as it saves precious time queueing at Museum's canteen.
The task Alex allots his students is to make an elaborately handforged hanging basket bracket entailing a number of blacksmithing techniques to make it and if time, a second project is at hand to forge a diamond pointed fire poker. So get in touch with Alex Price to book an available designated day listed below or to buy a voucher for someone.
Hiring the forge for the day
If you would like to hire out the forge to make what you want, it will cost you £20 and hour plus the cost of the coal and metal needed for your project
Reasonable pricing
The blacksmithing course will cost you £170 per person. You can make complete use of the forge under my supervision and you can take home what you have made. Advance bookings are advisable.
A personalised service
Alex Price will personally demonstrate the ways to forge a part. He will also have the fire(s) ready for you on your arrival in order to crack on for the rest of the day. As you forge out your parts, he will weld it all together for you to take home.
